I listened to the story on audiobook so I missed the illustrations so I might pick a copy up just to see the illustrations later.A review by my 9 y-o son, described by the utterly lovely Neil Gaiman as the 'best review ever': I really enjoyed it and I think this would be a great book to read to my little sister. I've read one book by gaimon before this and wanted to read more by him so I thought I would go with one of his shorter ones and pocked this one up.

I had no expectations going into this book. I think this would be great for reading aloud with a grade-schooler. ) Scottie Young's illustrations are perfect. Anyway, this is a cute little volume - half overgrown picture-book, half book-length run-on sentence, half junior version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. like dad tells his kids to explain being so long at the store when he just went to buy milk. It's a funny story a suspiciously Gaiman.

One of my favorite exchanges:"I think that there should have been some nice wumpires," said my sister, wistfully. However, he takes longer than the children expect, and upon his return tells them of his wild adventures on his way back. They run out of milk and the father runs out to buy some more. It begins with the mother going away to a work conference and leaving the father to take care of the children alone for a few days. I too was impressed with this sci-fi children's fantasy. He's a bit of a bookworm (like his mother) so this was a fairly weighty statement. **Children's Sci-Fi/Fantasy**After I finished reading this with my son before bed last night, he declared it was the best book he's ever read.
